Tambornino Heritage
Nestled in the Piedmont area of northern Italy is a littlemountain village, Forno di Rivaro. There, in 1586, our first known ancestor,Guiglielmo (William) Tambornino was born. He was marrled to Cattarina Todeschiin 1611. They had two children, Giovanni and Maria. The next four succeeding generations continued to reside inItaly. Little information is available on these families, until EugenioTambernino was born in 1762. Toward the end of the 18th century, Eugenio traveled from Forno di Rivaro to Omegna at Lake d’Orta where he marriedMarie De Genoli, whose family owned armament or ammunition factories and ironmines. Eugenio and Maria, died very early and left a son who was also named Eugenio.
Maria's sister and her husband took the little orphan intotheir own home, and around 1775 the family went to Trun in the Canton of Graubunden,Switzerland. There Eugenio owned and-operated an inn called Zum Ahorn (TheMaples). In this same building was located the post office which was managed byTambornino descendants for about I00 years. Around 1790 Eugenio marriedFrancesca Job. They had two sons, Giovanni (John), who died at the age of 14, andGiuseppi (Joseph), born 2 February 1801.
Joseph married Anna MariaMillar of Trun in 1822. For several years he worked with his uncle doingtinwork (pewter) and making bells for animals. They had three sons, Joseph, JacobFranz and Martin Ludivic, and four daughters, Elizabetha, Franzisca, Katharinaand Genoveva.
